Situated in the heart of the Sterkfontein Dam, near Harrismith in the Free State, our lodge offers breathtaking panoramic views. The majestic Platberg Mountain stands sentinel, while the vast expanse of the Sterkfontein Dam stretches out before you.
The four individually decorated suites have their own charm. Whether it be the vivid Persian rug on the cherry-wood floor, or the original art piece adorning the wall, the rooms are reflective of the rich environment which Wild Horses calls home and provide comfort, peace and tranquillity.
The rooms provide Egyptian cotton linen, bathrobes and towels as well as DSTV, hair drier, complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, a fully-stocked bar fridge, digital safe, writing desk, standard or spa baths, separate toilet, air conditioners and electric blankets for the chilly wintry months.
Each room has it’s own private patio that provides a breath taking view.

Wild Horses Lodge is not a wedding venue per se, but is made available for those who wish to arrange a customised, intimate and bespoke wedding. We create the wonderful atmosphere you have always dreamed about using.
Our lodge has a proud reputation for hosting exclusive weddings and we fully understand that any wedding is a special celebration which we treat as such.
We strongly recommend that both bride and groom visit the lodge before you make your choice of venue. You will be overwhelmed by the awesome spirit of the mountain, the magnificent views over the dam and the atmosphere of complete peace and tranquillity that the lodge enjoys.
The lodge caters for weddings for a maximum of 30 guests.
Wedding Accommodation
Wild Horses Lodge can accommodate 4 couples in 4 rooms (We have an additional smaller suite for 2 more people if needed) at a B&B rate over 2 days. Accommodation and transport can be arranged for the balance of the guests at Qwantani, our neighbouring resort at your expense.
The rates at Wild Horses Lodge are R 16 500-R17 500/n B&B only for 4 rooms.
Normally the bridal party make use of Qwantani’s boma for the one night, this allows the lodge time to prepare the venue and allows the venue to be a surprise for the guests.
Golden City is a yacht that has been raced extensively from the early seventies and competed in 3 Cape to Rio races, two of which Jon competed in as crew. The yacht has been completely restored and is based on the Sterkfontein Dam and offers luxury accommodation as well as the opportunity to go day sailing or enjoying lying at anchor and being surrounded by nature. The yacht can be chartered in various ways depending on what sort of experience is desired.
Speed Boat
Daily trips are offered on our Sea Ray. Swimming from the boat is a popular past time.

Venture out for a day of exhilarating hiking through the nature reserve or on the estate.
Horse Riding
Explore the Estate or Nature Reserve on one of Wild Horse’s specially bred horses.

The Wild Horses Dining Room
Culinary delights: Our dining room offers a truly magnificent experience. From light lunches to gourmet 3-course dinners, our set menu is a celebration of outstanding food.
Meals are served in the dinning room with its reeded ceilings and cosy fireplace or in the private wine cellar. Wake up to a delicious Continental breakfast and Chef’s special breakfast. Laze over a light lunch and indulge in a gourmet 3-course dinner.
Guests are able to select their own bottle of wine from the Lodge’s private wine cellar which is continually being added to as the owner, Jon Hawkins, is an avid collector.
Fisherman Special
Minimum of a two night stay – free boat transfer to your choice of fishing spot within 5kms of the lodge.
Available midweek only. Not available during weekends and peak season. Valid October – March.
Weekend Special
Stay for 3 nights over a weekend and get 30% off the last night.
