The town was laid out on a farm named Elandsfontein and the Witwatersrand Gold Reef had a very important influence on what the town has grown into.
Bedfordview has a total population of approximately 22 000 residents and the majority of them speak English. Bedfordview was forced to join Germiston as part of the Transitional Council of Greater Germiston.
