General Information

Centurion is located between Midrand and P retoria along the N1 and N14 national roads in the Gauteng Province in South Africa. It was previously an independent municipality but as of the year 2000 it forms part of the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.

Centurion was found as a town previously called Verwoerdburg in 1964. Centurion is a fast-growing rural development in the south of Tshwane. The town adjacent to Centurion is Irene which is named after Irene Nelmapius. She was the daughter of a Adjoining Centurion is Irene, named after Irene Nelmapius, the daughter of a famous pre-Boer War Financier.

Activities and Attractions

Things to do in Centurion and the surrounds include a lion park, the Lesedi Cultural Village and walks along the Hennops River. The Sterkfontein Caves, a world heritage site with fossils of humans living in the area two to three millions years ago, is situated only 50km from Centurion and is a must see for anyone visiting the region.

Centurion has relatively mild weather with dry, sunny winters and hot summers days which often end with afternoon showers. This pleasant Highveld weather makes for a comfortable climate all year round.
